![]() I don't care about DMC5 I'm talking about batman.Īnd I'm talking about your source and the reliability of their testing. As we just saw with DMC5, cutscenes and gameplay seem to display significantly different performance characteristics.ĭigital Foundry are good at certain things. Unfortunately, the fact that it sees regular disparities shows this to be a flawed hypothesis, and the lack of a comparable amount of real-world gameplay test sequences raises questions as to the reliability of these sequences as representative of the game itself. They seem to devote a bizarre amount of time to testing cutscenes, and I'd assume they're doing this to ensure that the game is running the exact same sequences each time. No aspect of this makes logical sense, so the only truly plausible conclusion is that they didn't test well enough to gather reliable, consistent results.īut what about the game in question? Well, that's awkward to properly assess. That's not the whole story, though, as those two results are only even because one runs gameplay measurably better while the other does the same thing for cutscenes. ![]() Put simply, they claimed to have measured a clear performance deficit for Denuvo despite actually producing average results that seem to be almost entirely even. There were other issues too, like the fact that the cutscene they benchmarked had the Denuvo-protected version running faster than the DRM-free version. Here, for instance, they show a snippet of their DMC5 testing in which they benchmarked a single cutscene and one area in which they just stood motionless for a few seconds, and even then those two latter sections were non-identical, making them of dubious comparative validity. Take a look at their testing and results, though. For example:ĭigital Foundry, did a comparison of DRM-free Epic Games Store version vs Denuvo DRM version of Batman Arkham Knight and found no difference Neither of those claims is justified by the evidence. Your startup time and loading screens will be faster, but in-game there is no difference.
